Due to both limited availability of volunteers and new opportunities, we are making summer changes to the Granger Food Pantry.
We are adding times for picking up supplies. One new option is Tuesday evenings from 5-6pm at the 2nd door from the north on the alley side of the church, which will start Tuesday, June 9th and continue every Tuesday through August 11th. A second new time is Sundays from 11:30-11:45am at the next door south of our main entrance. The familiar third option is Tuesdays and Thursdays during church office hours, which are currently 10am to 2pm.You will need to show ID to pick up your items.
The second change is a new way of “shopping” for your requests. This letter includes 2 copies of our current typical supplies. Please put your name, & number in the family at the top of each, then mark the items you usually need on each sheet. Keep the copy on the back of this letter and drop the other copy off at the church. (Or take a picture of one sheet on your phone and send it in an email to eumcgranger@gmail.com. with subject line Food Pantry list.)
Once we have a copy of what your “usual” needs are, you can call the church office and either tell the person answering, or leave a message, giving your name, when you’d like to pick up your items, and information such as “I don’t need _________ or _______ right now, but I’d like ___________ if you have some.”
Currently we will have volunteers filling all requests on Tuesday mornings from about 11am until noon each week. So in order to pick up your items later in the day that Tuesday, that Tuesday evening from 5-6 pm, the following Thursday during church office hours, or the following Sunday at 11:30 am, you will need to call the church at 515-999-2215 to leave your message some time before 10am on Tuesday morning.
We will still have pre-made bags/boxes of items for families who arrive at any of the pantry times “unscheduled.” You’ll show ID and receive a pre-made box/bags which, depending on our supplies, will generally include canned chicken, tuna, mac & cheese, canned fruit, canned vegetable, instant oatmeal, toilet paper, bar soap, chicken or beef “chunky” soup, condensed soup, and pasta.
In case you are unaware there are free pantry items at the Granger Library located at 2200 Walnut Street in Granger. Their hours are Mon.-Thurs. 11am-6pm, Friday 11am-4pm, and Sat. 9am-noon. There is also an outdoor cupboard with free items in front of Assumption church.
New pantry users will still need to sign up in person during church office hours.
